Warrington pair James Laithwaite and Gary Wheeler are swapping the Wolves for the Wolfpack after agreeing to join the new Toronto franchise.

Back-rower Laithwaite and half-back Wheeler follow Leigh winger Liam Kay and Wakefield utility back Craig Hall in committing themselves to the team joining Kingstone Press League 1 next year.

Laithwaite has not played for the Wolves since breaking his leg against Leigh in June 2015 while Wheeler has made only one appearance off the bench this season.

"We are very excited to add two experienced players to our ever-growing squad," Wolfpack chief executive Eric Perez said.

"Both Gary and James have been match winners at the highest level and that's the standard we want in our club."

Laithwaite, a product of Warrington's academy, said: "I can't wait to get started and begin the next chapter of my career with the Toronto Wolfpack.

"I'm looking forward to next year and showing the people of Toronto what a great sport we have on offer."

Warrington coach Tony Smith added: "It's a fantastic opportunity for both James and Gary. Neither has played a lot of rugby in the last couple of years.

"It's a really exciting prospect for them and I also think Toronto are getting two very talented young players. I hope both are able to keep fit and healthy over the next couple of years to re-establish their careers and kick on.

"We are grateful for what they have contributed to our fantastic club and we will always keep the door open for them in the future."
