Justin Carney has been banned for two matches

Salford winger Justin Carney has been banned for two matches after being found guilty of coming into contact with a match official.

The 28-year-old was charged by the Rugby Football League's match review panel with making either deliberate or reckless physical contact with referee James Child in the 36th minute of his side's 30-20 Betfred Super League win at Huddersfield last Thursday.

Carney denied the grade C offence but was found guilty by an RFL independent disciplinary panel at a hearing in Leeds and was fined £300 as well as being suspended for Friday's game at Leeds and the Red Devils' next match against Warrington on Saturday week.

Carney was supported at the hearing by his club but owner Marwan Koukash suggested there is unlikely to be an appeal.

"Very disappointing to lose Justin Carney for two games following this evening's RFL hearing," Koukash tweeted. "We just have to accept it and move on."

Leeds second rower Jamie Jones-Buchanan is free to play in Friday's game after attending a disciplinary hearing.
