Ryan Lannon celebrated his try early... and then was stopped short of the line!

Ryan Lannon was punished for celebrating prematurely during Salford's Challenge Cup victory over Hull KR.

The Red Devils forward made a superb break from inside his own half on 54 minutes, beating five players as he sprinted towards the line.

Thinking he was clear of the Rovers defence, Lannon began to celebrate, only for Nick Scruton to scramble back and make an ankle tap tackle.

"He's waved at the fans, touches the badge and then he falls over, the poor lad!" said Terry O'Connor.

The incident didn't prove costly as Salford came from 14-0 down to win at the AJ Bell Stadium, scoring 24 unanswered points.

Lannon scored the Red Devils' first try on 24 minutes with Craig Kopczak, Kris Brinning and Ben Murdoch-Masila also touching down.
