St Helens have signed Samoa international Lama Tasi from Salford Red Devils on a two-year deal from 2016.

The 25-year-old prop forward has previously played in Australia for National Rugby League sides Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos.

St Helens head coach Keiron Cunningham said: “Lama is a great acquisition for the club and will add a great deal to our pack next season.

“He carries the ball well; is big, strong and powerful and at 25 it’s frightening to think he still can improve.

“We are all excited at the prospect of working with him.

“With the youngsters we have coming through the system here, as well as the experience the senior players bring, we have a good balanced squad for this season and beyond.”

Born in Auckland, Lama moved to Queensland when he was three-years-old. He played youth rugby league with Manly and represented the Junior Kiwis before signing for Sydney Roosters.

After two seasons at Sydney and a full international call-up from Samoa, Lama joined Brisbane where a series of rampant performances saw him earn the nickname ‘Bondi Bruiser’.
