London Broncos player Richard Mathers is considering his options after being banned for six months for breaching the sport's rules relating to betting.

An independent tribunal found Mathers guilty of providing inside information on his club's playing strengths and pre-match preparations, and of encouraging other people to bet on the outcome of a match using the social media messaging application WhatsApp.

Mathers' offences all related to the fixture against the Leigh Centurions in March. His suspension will run until January 28, 2016.

But the 31-year-old, who previously played for Warrington, Leeds, Wigan, Castleford and Wakefield, revealed on Twitter that he was not happy with the tribunal's decision, writing in a statement: "I totally refute the RFL tribunal decision.

"I want to make it absolutely clear I have never had any involvement in betting or encouraging betting by providing inside information within Rugby League.
