St Helens full-back Ben Barba has been cleared of serious injury after being taken to hospital in a neck brace.

The Australian scored a first Super League hat-trick, taking him clear at the top of the chart with 15 tries in 13 matches.

But he fell awkwardly in a tackle eight minutes from the end of the leaders' 60-10 win over Salford on Thursday evening.

Barba was treated on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher. With England prop Alex Walmsley sidelined with a fractured bone in his neck, Barba's injury would have been a huge concern.

But a St Helens spokesman on Friday morning said: "We are pleased to report that Ben was cleared of any serious injury last night after being seen in hospital.
