Full-back Rhys Hanbury has signed a three-year contract extension at Widnes.

The 30-year-old Australian had been out of contract at the end of the season but will now remain through 2019.

Hanbury has scored 407 points in 166 appearances for the Vikings, since joining from Welsh side Celtic Crusaders in 2012.

Hanbury is the sixth Widnes player to sign a contract extension, following Stefan Marsh, Chris Dean, Eamon O'Carroll, Joe Mellor and Charly Runicman.

Widnes coach Denis Betts said: "Rhys extending his current contract to the Vikings for three years is a notable acquisition.

"The energy and drive he brings to the squad has grown year on year, and he has certainly started this season in incredible form which has in turn highlighted his abilities as a full-back and kicker."

Hanbury played for NRL teams South Sydney and Wests before moving to Super League in 2010.

The player himself said: "I am really pleased that I have got the deal done. I always wanted to stay at the Vikings and me and my girlfriend are really happy.

"Coming to work every day with your best mates is a dream come true. I get on with the coaching staff and everybody at the club and wouldn't want to leave.

"I came over to the UK as half-back but when I sat down with Denis, he had faith in me and let me take the full-back role. I am so glad to be staying here for a further three years."
