Canberra Raiders moved up to third in the NRL standings after a 22-8 win over leaders Melbourne on Monday.

England internationals Josh Hodgson and Elliot Whitehead both impressed as the Raiders recorded their seventh successive victory.

Centre Joseph Leilua scored after just 47 seconds for the fastest try of the season and he bagged his second on 24 minutes after Cooper Cronk had replied for the Storm.

The Canberra defence held Melbourne scoreless for the final 62 minutes at GIO Stadium and Shannon Boyd's second-half try secured the win.

Defending champions North Queensland slumped to their third straight defeat, going down to the lowly Sydney Roosters to threaten their title hopes.

The Roosters won 22-10 in their best victory of an under-performing season. It was the first time since round three last year that the Cowboys had suffered three straight losses.
