Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters remain the only unbeaten teams after three rounds of the NRL.
The Storm saw off the Brisbane Broncos 14-12 in Melbourne while the Roosters had a tight away win over the Penrith Panthers.
On Sunday, reigning premiers Cronulla Sharks suffered a 16-10 loss to neighbours St George-Illawarra, their second defeat of the season.
Melbourne were impressive in their two-point comeback win over the Broncos. Brisbane were leading 12-8 when the ball bounced off two Broncos players into the hands of Josh Addo-Carr, who scored in the corner to level the game.
Melbourne captain Cameron Smith converted from the sideline to seal victory for the Storm.
Sydney Roosters continued their resurgence when they beat Penrith 14-12 thanks to a superb outing from veteran full-back Michael Gordon.
The 33-year-old turned back the clock to score a double against his former club before pulling off a try-saving tackle on Penrith's Tyrone Peachey in the dying stages of the match.
"Mick's been a great player in our game for Cronulla, Parramatta and Penrith," said Roosters coach Trent Robinson.
"Full-backs are enormous in our game with your Billy Slaters and Darius Boyds, they get a lot of raps.
"Mick's never been classed as one of those players but he's got a complete game and does so many things well. Players like playing with him and that's why it's good to see a guy like that play like that."
St George-Illawarra moved up to third with their win over Cronulla.
The Dragons had to survive a stirring second-half comeback before seeing off their neighbours, producing some inspired defence to hold out the Sharks, who scored twice in the space of seven minutes to get within four points in the second half.
In the other matches, South Sydney beat Newcastle 24-18 and Canberra thrashed Wests Tigers 46-6.
Three teams had their first wins of the season. Gold Coast downed Parramatta 26-14 at home, Canterbury beat New Zealand Warriors 24-12 and Manly stunned North Queensland 30-8 in Townsville.
