Imani Lansiquot was "gutted and proud" at finishing fourth in the 100m final at the British Championships in Birmingham.

The 20-year-old from south London had shown bags of form in the build-up with times of 11.24 seconds and 11.39 in Germany, and in a sweltering Alexander Stadium she showed all the class of a sprinter rapidly on the rise.

After winning her semi-final in 11.55s in a strong headwind, the Sky Sports Scholar finished strongly but was pipped on the line by Daryll Neita (second) and Bianca Williams (third) to just miss out on qualification for the European Championships.

Nobody was going to catch Dina Asher-Smith on her current form as the British record holder was crowned champion after clocking 10.97s - her third sub-11 seconds run of the season - to blow away the opposition.

Despite not making the top-two and securing the automatic pick for the Berlin Europeans in August, Lansiquot said: "I'm proud and disappointed. It would have been nice to qualify obviously.

"My semi-final was good considering the wind and it was a pretty good race but the final was the biggest race I've ever been in.

"It was also the first time of being in a senior final and feeling I had a chance. I'm actually very happy with how I held myself and came away with a season's best. I can't complain.

"I put my best foot forward and the girls were just better than me on the day. It's a lot of 'I'm moving forward for the rest of the season'.

"It was only my fourth race of the campaign and I'm really looking forward to what's in store for me. I'm a bit gutted but it's lots of experience gained and I'm really proud of myself."
