A final heat 5+1 from Darcy Ward and Przemyslaw Pawlicki saw Poole Pirates snatch a thrilling 45-45 draw with Eastbourne Eagles in Monday night’s televised Elite League speedway clash.
Trailing 40-32 with just three heats remaining, Ward hauled the Pirates back into contention before leading Pawlicki home in the final four laps at Arlington Stadium.
The two points gained keeps Poole in third place, while Eastbourne, who picked up one, sit four points further adrift in fourth.
Successive heat wins for Timo Lahti (9+1) and Cameron Woodward (10+1) and 11 points from Lewis Blackbird looked to have put the meeting beyond Poole before a late rally from the visitors.
Vaclav Milik kept the tie alive by winning the penultimate heat and Ward (9+2) and Pawlicki 10+3) then grabbed a share of the spoils after bursting out of the traps in the decider.
Elsewhere in the Elite League on Monday there were wins for Belle Vue Aces and Wolverhampton Wolves.
Craig Cook produced a star turn with an 11+2 haul for Belle Vue during a 56-39 win over Birmingham Brummies, for who Ben Barker notched 13 points.
While Tai Woffinden (13+2) was once again the star of the show as Wolverhampton defeated Swindon Robins 51-41.
