Newcastle Diamonds rider Lewis Kerr is in a stable condition after an horrific crash at Peterborough on Sunday in the Premier League Fours.
The 25-year-old was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge having been treated at the East of England Showground for over an hour.
Kerr has been placed in an induced coma and BSPA chairman Alex Harkess said: "Lewis is in a stable condition and is in the very best place for care and attention.
“Our thoughts are with Lewis and his family, and we wish him a full, successful and speedy recovery."
The incident happened in Heat Three of the Grand Final of the Premier League Fours where Kerr was involved in a high speed crash with Somerset's Josh Grajczonek in the third and fourth bend.
With Kerr receiving lengthy treatment and the riders shaken by events, the decision was taken by the referee Stuart Wilson, all riders and team managers to abandon the meeting, a decision warmly applauded by the bumper crowd.
Harkess added: “There was no alternative but to abandon the meeting. All of the riders were in no state to continue after seeing what had happened."
