Blue skies provided the perfect backdrop for women's semi-final day

First up, it was an all-Czech affair as Lucie Safarova took on Fed Cup team-mate and former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova

After breaking in the opening game, Kvitova got a taste of her own medicine in the fourth game as Safarova struck back

In her first grand slam semi-final, Safarova held her own to force a first set tie-break

Kvitova won the tie-break 8-6 and she raised her game in the second set

Safarova struggled as Kvitova claimed an early break

And there were two more breaks for Kvitova as she raced through the second set 6-1

In the second semi-final, there was a 12th-minute injury scare for Simona Halep when the Romanian rolled her ankle during the first set

Rising Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard was quick to expose her opponent's weakness

Halep battled through the pain however and took the first set to a tie-break

There was a break during the tie-break however as umpire Kader Nouni raced across court

Nouni had spotted an ill woman in the crowd who required medical attention

Bouchard went on to win the tie-break and stepped up a level for the second set

The 20-year-old Canadian made a fine start to the second set, claiming an early break

Halep continued to battle hard...

...But it was not enough to prevent Bouchard winning the second set 6-2 to complete victory

Bouchard squandered five match points but was overcome with emotion when she finally booked her place alongside Kvitova in the final

Third seed Halep bowed at the penultimate hurdle, leaving Bouchard to look forward to her first grand slam final
