Andy Murray was beaten 6-2 6-4 in the final of the Paris Masters by Novak Djokovic, and was full of praise for his opponent and the tournament

Andy Murray failed to win his first Paris Masters title after suffering another defeat to Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.

The British No 1 has won just one of his seven matches against the world No 1 this year and the defending champion denied him more silverware in a 6-2 6-4 win.

Racking up 34 unforced errors, Murray could not exert persistent pressure on the Serb, who comfortably took the opening set and was briefly delayed by a break before he retained his title in the French capital.

Djokovic had dished out a humbling defeat when they met in last month's Shanghai Masters semi-final and he struck an early blow, seizing a break for a 2-1 lead.

Murray was being forced to cling onto his serve and scampered to save three break points at 3-2 down, but he would fling a forehand long to offer another opportunity to Djokovic, who ruthlessly opened a 5-2 lead.

Bringing up set point with a sliced ace, Djokovic calmly served out for a 1-0 lead in the match.

Murray struggled to shake off his persistent foe at the start of the second set and fended off another break point, holding serve with a much-needed ace.

But Djokovic maintained his nagging assault, snatching a further break following yet more mistakes from Murray, who found the net with regularity.

A momentary lapse from this year's three-time Grand Slam winner allowed Murray to break back, with Djokovic allowing a return to drop on the line.

It would prove a brief reprieve as Murray slashed the ball long to hand over another break and his latest defeat to Djokovic was sealed when he flicked a backhand wide.
