Serena Williams guided the Philippine Mavericks to a 29-18 win over the UAE Royals at the International Premier Tennis League in Manila on Sunday.
In front of their home crowd, the Mavericks put in strong performance to go top of the standings with two wins and a defeat.
Williams, winner of 21 Grand Slam titles, lost her mixed doubles match alongside Treat Huey against Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic, but went on to beat Ana Ivanovic 6-3 in their women's singles match.
Mavericks' French pair of Richard Gasquet and Edouard Roger-Vasselin beat Tomas Berdych and Daniel Nestor 6-3 in men's doubles. Mark Philippoussis and Milos Raonic were also victorious on the night in front of the raucous crowd.
Sunday's opening match saw the Singapore Slammers beat the winless Japan Warriors 29-20.
Legends Carlos Moya and Marat Safin opened proceedings, matching each other stroke for stroke before 1998 French Open winner Moya gave the Slammers an early lead taking the set 6-4.
But the Warriors pulled one back in the men's doubles as Leander Paes and Pierre-Hughes Herbert snatched the points.
In the women's singles, Slammers' Belinda Bencic overpowered Kurumi Nara early on, and even a mid-set substitution with Mirjana Lucic couldn't prevent defeat to the young Swiss star Bencic.
Nick Kyrgios and Phillip Kohlschreiber provided a thrilling encounter in the men's singles. Australia's Kyrgios won the set for the Slammers 6-5 in a shoot-out.
Finally, in the mixed doubles, Kyrgios and Bencic took on Lucic and Herbert and came out easy winners 6-3 to take the match with a nine-point margin.
