Naomi Broady suffers first-round defeat in Prague

Naomi Broady's clay-court season started with her being comprehensively beaten at the J&T Banka Prague Open by American Madison Brengle.

Broady, the British No 3, suffered a 6-2 6-0 defeat in a first-round contest that lasted 51 minutes.

The 26-year-old failed to earn a single break point against Brengle, who at 71 is nine places higher than her in the world rankings.

Elsewhere, Su-Wei Hsieh came from behind to beat Kristyna Pliskova in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Ana Konjuh also recovered from a first-set deficit to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 against Jelena Ostapenko.
