Laura Robson's return from a wrist injury was cut short in the second round of the Rabat Open in Morocco on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old had beaten wild card Ghita Benhadi in her opening match to secure her first main draw win in a WTA Tour event since 2013.
But fifth seed Timea Babos brought an emphatic end to Robson's hopes of further progression with a 6-1 6-2 victory.
She is currently ranked 426th but looks likely to get back inside the world's top 350 in next week's rankings.
It was also a bad day at the office for Britain's Kyle Edmund, who couldn't repeat his fine effort on Tuesday in Portugal.
Britain's No 3 was in fine form in the opening round of the Millennium Estoril Open with victory over Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
But on Wednesday the 21-year-old from Yorkshire, ranked 89 in the world, lost to France's Benoit Paire 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-3.
