World No 1 Novak Djokovic has confirmed he will not play for Serbia in their Davis Cup clash against Great Britain.

Djokovic announced his decision shortly after being surprisingly knocked out of Wimbledon on Saturday, losing to American Sam Querrey in the third round

The 29-year-old had made at least the quarter-finals of every major since the 2009 French Open prior to his defeat to Querrey.

Serbia will play Great Britain, the defending Davis Cup champions, in Belgrade on the weekend of July 15, but will now have to make do without their star player.

When asked whether his early exit from Wimbledon would affect his decision to play in the Davis Cup, Djokovic said: "No, I am not going to play in the Davis Cup."

Novak Djokovic's quest for a calendar Grand Slam is over…

Viktor Troicki, Nenad Zimonjic and Filip Krajinovic, who featured alongside Djokovic in Serbia's first-round victory over Kazakhstan, will be joined by a new team-mate for the clash against Great Britain.

The winners of the match will face either Italy or Argentina in the semi-finals in September, while Murray revealed later in the dat that he intends to play the tie.

"My plan is to play. But I yeah also need to see how things go at the end of this event. It has been a long few months for me already," said Murray after his win over John Millman.

"I need to just assess how I'm feeling at the end of the event, and hopefully I can go a long way here.  That's what my target is. But I'm not basing my decision on Novak. I want to play in the tie. If I'm physically fit, I'll be there."

Djokovic admitted he was "not 100 per cent healthy" after his defeat by Querrey, but felt the American deserved credit for his performance, rather than have people concentrating on his fitness, or lack of it.

"Sam played a great match. His game was brutal and I was overpowered today," said Djokovic after his admission of not being 100 per cent added: "This is not the place or time to talk about it."

"I managed to win four Grand Slams in a row - two different seasons, though. I want to try to focus on that rather than on failure.

"It's an amazing feeling, obviously, to be able to hold four Grand Slams at the same time. Coming into Wimbledon, I knew that mentally it's not going to be easy to kind of re-motivate myself.

"But the importance of this tournament is so immense that you always find ways to really get inspired and prepare and try to give your best. Obviously my best wasn't enough this year."
