Johanna Konta strolled into the third round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal with a 7-5 6-1 win over America's Vania King.

Konta, seeded 15, needed 74 minutes to beat King and set up a clash with Varvara Lepchenko, second round conqueror of another Briton, Naomi Broady.

British No 1 Konta claimed an early break but was pegged back by King before a second break in the 12th game earned her the opening set.

The second set was a much more one-sided affair with Konta twice breaking King's serve to progress with a deal of ease.

Canada's Eugenie Bouchard delighted her home crowd with a 6-2, 6-0 drubbing of Dominika Cibulkova

"It's special playing in Montreal," Bouchard said afterwards. "I don't get to do it often, so it just makes me extra motivated to play in front of you guys."

Most of the seeds had a good day in Montreal, although eighth seed Carla Suarez Navarro made an early departure when she lost 3-6 6-4 6-4 against Slovakia's Kristina Kucova.
