Britain’s Dan Evans lost his first ATP Tour final in Sydney on Saturday morning, but enjoyed a career-high rise in the world rankings.
Evans lost out to Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller 7-6 6-2 at the Sydney International, the precursor to next week’s Australian Open.
But the 26-year-old Brit improved his ATP ranking from No 67 to No 51.
He will face Argentine Facundo Bagnis in his first match at the Australian Open next week.
In the men's doubles final, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares lost 6-3 7-5 to Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop.
