Karolina Pliskova's stunning run of form in 2017 continued as she advanced into the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The world No 3 defeated Spain's Garbine Muguruza 7-6 7-6 to remain on target for a third title of the year .
There were six breaks of serve in the first set as both women struggled to hold, only for Pliskova to dominate in the tie-break.
She earned successive breaks in the second set and twice served for the match but on both occasions Muguruza recovered to force another breaker.
Pliskova again regrouped and finally claimed victory on her third match point when the Spaniard sent down a double fault.
The Czech will meet Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-finals after she won an all-Russian affair against Anastasia Pavlyuchenko.
Kuznetsova eased through 6-3 6-2 to reach the last four at Indian Wells for the first time since 2008, where she went on to reach the final for a second successive year.
Caroline Wozniacki faces Kristina Mladenovic and Venus Williams takes on Elina Vesnina in the remaining quarter-finals on Thursday.
