Rafa Nadal wasted little time in booking his spot in the third round of the Miami Open.

The Spaniard was on court for just 80 minutes during his 6-3 6-4 victory over Israel's Dudi Sela, breaking serve once in each set.

In the opening set, the No 5 seed conceded just three points from his five service games against a 31-year-old opponent he was meeting for only the second time.

Nadal faced a brace of break points in game six of the second set, otherwise he was rarely troubled, as he made the decisive break in the seventh.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner has never triumphed on the hard courts of Key Biscayne where he is hoping it will be 13th time lucky.

In 12 previous appearances, he has reached the final four times and the 30-year-old said: "I'm trying my best every year.

"I've been very close four times. I will try to give myself another chance." His next opponent will be Germany's Phillip Kohlschreiber, the No 26 seed.

Another leading player to make it through to the third round is No 2 seed Kei Nishikori, who beat the big-serving South African Kevin Anderson 6-4 6-3.

Nishikori, beaten by Novak Djokovic in last year's Miami final, did not face a single break point while winning 88% of his first-serve points.

The 27-year-old from Japan, who now resides in Florida, said: "I think if I can win big tournaments like this or some Masters, that's going to give me a lot of confidence for sure.

"That's my next goal, to win the big tournaments. But I think I'm on the right track. I think last year was a very solid year." Nishikori will now take on No 25 seed Fernando Verdasco of Spain.
