Live Tennis: ATP World Tour Finals

It is Murray's third straight appearance at the O2 Arena and second with Brazilian Soares after the pair reached the semi-finals 12 months ago, a result that was enough to see them finish 2016 top of the doubles rankings.

Now they are hoping to win their first ATP Finals title together, to add to the three tournaments they won this season at Queen's, Stuttgart and Acapulco.

They begin against distinguished American duo Mike and Bob Bryan, who have 16 Grand Slam triumphs together but are not the immovable force they once were.

Murray and Soares beat the Bryan brothers in this tournament last year but did lose to them six months earlier in Rome on clay.

"It's the tour finals, it's a huge event," Murray told reporters. "It is the biggest event we have on the tour so you are not going to get bigger than that on the tour.

"Last year myself and Bruno did semi-finals there, we played some good tennis and we are trying to do even better."

Also in Murray and Soares' group are top seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, as well as Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers. They play later on Monday.
