Nick Kyrgios has been left saddened by Andy Murray's hip setback saying it's never nice to see a fellow professional who is "good for the sport" get injured.
Murray pulled out of the Brisbane International on Tuesday as the long-term hip injury that has sidelined him since his Wimbledon quarter-final exit to American Sam Querrey was still causing him pain.
His participation in the first Grand Slam of the year - the Australian Open which starts on January 15 - is in serious doubt after the 30-year-old revealed he is considering surgery in a post on his Instagram page.
And world No 21 Kyrgios, who is a close friend of Murray's, has been left crestfallen by the news and hopes he will not have to go under the knife in order to resolve the problem.
"It's pretty sad; he's definitely a fan favourite," Kyrgios told the official ATP World Tour website. "He brings a lot of the people to all these tournaments and he's a good friend of mine.
"It's never good seeing a guy like that get injured, especially because he's just good for the sport. He's a good guy as well."
