Elina Svitolina dominated the Tie Break Tens in New York on Monday night, winning 17 straight points during victories over Venus Williams and CoCo Vandeweghe before defeating China's Zhang Shuai 10-3 to win $250,000.

The Williams sisters were the headline act at the eight-woman event at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Serena was playing singles for the first time this year as she prepares to return to the WTA Tour for the first time since giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, in September.

Serena Williams won her first match following her return to tennis, with a 10-5 victory over Marion Bartoli in New York

The former world No 1 won her first match against former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli, but the multiple Grand Slam winner met her match in Zhang in the semi-finals, as the Chinese star came through 13-11.

The winner of two tournaments already this year, Svitolina, won the last seven points against Venus to win 10-3, before crushing Vandeweghe 10-0 and then powered to victory in the final against Zhang 10-3.

Williams replayed a point after Hawk-Eye clearly showed her ace was in. She then promptly hit another ace to make sure!

Svitolina took home a 250,000 US dollar (£181,000) prize for her night's work.
