Johanna Konta through to third round at the Miami Open

British No 1 Johanna Konta made a successful start to the defence of her Miami Open crown by easing into the third round following a straight-sets win over Kirsten Flipkens.

The 11th seed was in great form as she served eight aces and won 76 per cent of points on her first serve to move past her Belgian opponent with a 6-4 6-3 triumph in 84 minutes.

Konta, who received a first-round bye, will take No 22 seed Elise Mertens in the next round.

Earlier on Friday in the men's tournament as Liam Broady crashed out following a second-round defeat to Filip Krajinovic.
