Andy Murray brushed aside Milos Raonic to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters and then revealed he was not aware that his Canadian opponent was nursing a foot injury.

The Scot, who had lost three of his five prior encounters against Raonic, came through the encounter with relative ease to take a step closer to winning his second clay-court title after success at last week's Munich Open.

He will play Kei Nishikori for a place in Sunday's final after the Japanese beat Spaniard David Ferrer 6-4 6-2.

Murray said he had no idea of Raonic's injury prior to the start of their quarter-final clash, but admitted his opponent was still tough to beat.

"I didn't know that (Raonic was injured) before we came on court but obviously saw quite early that he was struggling," Murray told Sky Sports 3.

"He was still serving 230kmph so it's difficult to dictate the points and get someone to move when it's like that."

Murray continues to shine on clay in 2015 and he admitted he is enjoying playing on a surface that has traditionally been his least favourite.

He added: "The last couple of years I really struggled physically and did not really enjoy myself on the clay whereas this year I'm coming with less pressure, less expectations and I've felt good physically and that's a good bonus for me."
