Bob Brett has resigned from his post as Director of Player Development at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), with the move due to take effect from the end of July.

Brett began working with the LTA in early 2014 when he was commissioned to undertake a thorough evaluation of British Tennis.

As a result of that, he recommended a number of changes to help British boys and girls compete with the best players across the world and to help further this, Brett took on the role of director of player development.

“I have enjoyed my time at the LTA working with some very talented players, coaches, sports science and sports medicine experts,” he said in an official statement.

Marcus Buckland visited Lensbury Tennis Club to question Judy Murray, Greg Rusedski and the LTA chief executive on the future of British tennis.

LTA chief executive Michael Downey paid tribute to the work undertaken by Brett during his time with the organisation.

“I would like to recognise the contribution Bob brought to British Tennis,” he said. “Many of his recommendations aimed at raising the bar for excellence, have now been implemented.

“We have seen the power of his five-day camps for the nation's best juniors and his mentoring of some of Britain's best young coaching talent where they benefited from his "in the trenches" understanding of what it takes to succeed on the global stage.

“Despite a relatively short tenure at the LTA, Bob has made a difference in improving our nation's chances for greater success.”

The LTA has begun its search for a new performance director, with Michael Downey assuming direct responsibility for the Senior High Performance Leadership Team in the meantime.
