Coric is considered one of the rising stars in the game but the 18-year-old was unable to keep pace with Anderson, who booked his place in the last four with a 6-2 7-6 (7-1) victory.

It brings an end to Coric's final warm-up tournament ahead of the US Open next week, where the Croatian has been drawn to play eighth seed Rafa Nadal in the first round.

Anderson will now face Malek Jaziri in the semi-finals after the Tunisian saw off sixth seed Thomaz Bellucci 6-3 6-2.

In the other half of the draw, France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert, conqueror of Britain's Aljaz Bedene in round three, came from a set down to beat Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.
