Caroline Wozniacki became the latest seed to fall at the US Open after Petra Cetkovska completed a thrilling upset win at Flushing Meadows.
The Danish fourth seed, last year's losing finalist, departed after a 6-4 5-7 7-6 second-round defeat and only three of the top 10 seeds still remain in the New York tournament.
Cetkovska, who has slipped to world No 149 after missing seven months with a hip injury, fended off four match points for Wozniacki before winning the last six points to seal victory in the tie-break.
In a see-saw opening set, Wozniacki took a 4-2 lead before her Czech opponent hit back with four straight games to forge a 1-0 lead.
Cetkovska appeared to be heading to victory when she moved 4-1 up in the second, but it was Wozniacki's turn to stage a fightback as she won six of the next seven games to force a decider.
The last set featured intense rallies, with Cetkovska saving one match point to hold for 5-5 and three more in the 12th game to set up the tie-breaker.
And Cetkovska, only playing in the Open thanks to a special injury exemption, held her nerve to secure a spot in the next round.

"She played well. I let her play well," said Wozniacki. "She had nothing to lose and went for her shots.
"It could have gone my way. I'm just frustrated with the match. Not playing my best level, but still being so close, still having my chances, not closing it out. That hurts. That really hurts."
Cetkovska admitted she feared for her future in the sport after undergoing hip surgery in September last year.
"Those first months it was extremely difficult," she said. "Every day I was asking myself if I will be able to play tennis again, to play on such a big stadium, to play such a big match and win it.
"So for me, it's just an amazing feeling."
Second seed Simona Halep is safely through to the third round after a straight sets win over Kateryna Bondarenko.
The Romanian did not live up to her high billing last year, suffering an early exit, but she never looked in danger during a 6-3 6-4 win over the qualifier.
