Second seed Caroline Wozniacki is out of the French Open after suffering a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 fourth-round defeat to Russian Daria Kasatkina.
Kasatkina, a former junior champion at Roland Garros, won the first set on a tie-break on Sunday evening but, in fading light, the players were taken off court at 3-3 in the second.
But the 21-year-old picked up where she left off on Monday morning, converting a third break point against the Australian Open champion before sealing her progress to a first Grand Slam quarter-final.
The 14th seed will now face American 10th seed Sloane Stephens in the last eight.
"I honestly didn't think I played badly this morning," said Wozniacki. "She didn't miss one ball, and she was playing very close to the lines. I was trying what I could, but it just wasn't enough today."
World No 1 Simona Halep earlier blazed into the quarters with a crushing 6-2 6-1 victory over Belgian Elise Mertens.
Romanian Halep, twice a runner-up at Roland Garros, started a little slowly but once she found her groove, there was nothing the 16th seed could do to avoid defeat.
Halep won the last nine games on Court Philippe Chatrier to set up a meeting with Angelique Kerber, who ended the hopes of home favourite Caroline Garcia in a 6-2 6-3 victory.
"It was not that easy, she is a tough opponent," said Halep, who is chasing her maiden Grand Slam title. "I was a bit nervous at the start of the match but I played my best match here at Roland Garros.
"I need to be more aggressive and try to finish the points because I don't hit so many winners."
Kerber matched her previous best performance in Paris from 2012 as the two-time Grand Slam champion lost only two points behind her first serve and broke Garcia twice to secure the first set in convincing fashion.
The German 12th seed squandered four match points leading 5-1 before Kerber then lost her serve for the first time but she immediately broke Garcia back to secure victory.
