Mandy Minella plays at Wimbledon while pregnant

Mandy Minella has confirmed that she played at Wimbledon while pregnant after losing her first-round match against Francesca Schiavone.

Luxembourg's Minella, the world No 82, lost 6-1 6-1 to Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone on Monday but announced she is four and a half months pregnant.

Minella, the 31-year-old, will also feature in the Wimbledon Ladies doubles with partner Anastasija Sevastova where they will face Ipek Soylu and Varatchaya Wongteanchai in the first round of the doubles event.

Minella posted a picture on her Twitter account on Tuesday showing husband and coach Tim Sommer kneeling in front of her on a Wimbledon court, kissing her stomach.

The news regarding Minella's participation at a Grand Slam tournament while pregnant follows soon after the announcement that Serena Williams won the Australian Open while pregnant.
