Dan Evans and Laura Robson denied Wimbledon wild cards

Dan Evans and Laura Robson are among the players to miss out on being handed a Wimbledon wild card this year.

The All England Club revealed their initial wild card picks for the tournament, which starts on Monday, July 2, with eight British players selected for the two singles draws.

However, Evans will have to go through pre-qualifying after Wimbledon opted not to hand the former top-50 player a wild card either into the main draw or qualifying.

Evans has been in excellent form since returning from a 12-month ban following a positive test for cocaine, winning 10 of his 13 matches on grass.

But he must take to the courts of Aorangi Park on Thursday with the other lower-ranked British hopefuls in an attempt to earn a wild card into next week's qualifying tournament.

Robson, who admitted earlier this month that she would probably decline a wild card if she was offered one, will also have to go through qualifying if she wants to make the singles draw.

On the men's singles side, Liam Broady and Jay Clarke have both been selected alongside Australian teenager Alex De Minaur - who beat Evans in the final of the Nature Valley Open in Nottingham last week - while five more picks are yet to be announced.
