Katie Taylor stopped Monica Gentili with a 5th round KO and says she is ready for a world title fight right now

Katie Taylor, Ireland’s Olympic gold medal winner, won her third professional bout with a fifth-round stoppage on Saturday night.

Five-time amateur world champion Taylor has made a seamless transition to the pro ranks and she dominated Monica Gentili (6-7), a rugged Italian opponent who was stopped on her feet.

The gulf in class was evident quickly, Taylor whipping a dozen punches to head and body before Gentili had even established her bearings.

Hands down with her head constantly moving, Taylor had total understanding of her opponent's movement throughout the second round and frequently landed on the counter.

Gentili had little option but to spend large periods covering up to minimise the damage - she was a tough visitor, but Taylor increased her pace in the third period. Body shots were the common theme, and the only surprise was that Taylor was unable to finish the job inside three rounds.

Taylor's educated feet kept her at the perfect distance to punch and not receive anything in return, and her output was also something to admire.

A vicious and speedy combination finally sealed the deal - Gentili was rendered defenceless and, although she beat the count, the referee called a halt.
