WWE Raw: Randy Orton lays out Brock Lesnar with an RKO
Finn Balor gets the better of Seth Rollins on red brand
Tuesday 2 August 2016 14:16, UK
Randy Orton blasted Brock Lesnar with an RKO as the latest episode of Monday Night Raw came to a raucous conclusion.
Lesnar, making his first appearance on WWE television since WrestleMania 32 in April, stood in the ring as his manager, Paul Heyman, promised his client would deliver some "violent entertainment" when he tackles Orton at SummerSlam on August 21.
However, as Heyman insisted Orton had no chance of victory at this month's pay-per-view, The Viper emerged from the crowd to floor Lesnar with his trademark finishing move.
Seth Rollins was also outdone by his SummerSlam opponent, Finn Balor, after interrupting the Irishman's interview with Michael Cole.
Rollins told Balor, who he will fight for the newly-established Universal Championship in New York, that he did not have what it takes to hang with the "fastest, strongest and most resilient" man in the wrestling industry.
Balor, who pinned Roman Reigns on his first night on Raw last week, took umbrage at Rollins' comments and proceeded to lay out The Architect with a Pele Kick.
Rollins did enjoy more success later in the show, though, overcoming Sami Zayn in a ding-dong battle after evading the Canadian's Helluva Kick and administering a Pedigree.
Elsewhere on Raw, Roman Reigns clocked Rusev with a Superman Punch after the United States Champion had defended his title by submitting Mark Henry, while Cesaro defeated Sheamus with the Neutralizer and Titus O'Neil pinned former Prime Time Players partner Darren Young.
The New Day bested The Club in a tag-team tussle before they were attacked by their opponents post-match, while Braun Strowman and Nia Jax dominated a pair of local competitors, and The Shining Stars knocked off Golden Truth.
Heath Slater's bid to earn a Raw contract ended in failure as he lost to ex-3MB pal Jinder Mahal in a bout to determine which of them would become the newest addition to the Monday-night roster.
Plus, Chris Jericho and Charlotte conquered Enzo Amore and new Women's Champion Sasha Banks in a mixed tag match after the duos had engaged in some pre-bout bickering.
