AJ Styles invoked his rematch clause for the WWE United States Championship on WWE Smackdown last night, live on Sky Sports Main Event.

AJ Styles fell short in his quest to regain the United States Championship after invoking his rematch clause on Smackdown.

Styles went one-on-one with Baron Corbin in a spectacular main event and the decisive moment came when Corbin countered Styles' leap from the apron and slammed him on to the arena floor.

The Lone Wolf feasted on his prey, pulling Styles back into the ring and hitting End of Days to retain his title.

Sami Zayn revealed Kevin Owens had shown him the light during an address to the WWE Universe following his actions at Hell in a Cell.

After KO welcomed Sami to the ring and thanked him for pulling him to safety at Hell in a Cell, Zayn told the WWE Universe that the days of trying to please them had got him nowhere, while KO's attitude had earned him WWE United States, Intercontinental and Universal Championships.

And despite their long-standing rivalry, Sami told Owens he would always be his brother, before the pair embraced.

Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable became the No 1 contenders for the WWE Smackdown Tag Team titles after winning a Fatal-4-Way match.

After champions The Usos came out to make a truce with The New Day, the team they beat inside Hell in a Cell on Sunday, but Benjamin and Gable, The Hype Bros, Breezango and The Ascension all interrupted to stake their claim for a title opportunity.

Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan made the match to find the next challengers, and Benjamin and Gable punched their ticket after taking out Tyler Breeze with an incredible double-team manoeuvre.

Becky Lynch moved a step closer to earning a shot at the WWE Smackdown Women's Championship after seeing off Carmella.

The Irish 'Lass Kicker' locked in the Dis-arm-her, forcing the Princess of Staten Island to tap out.

It was 'vintage' Randy Orton as he hit Rusev with an RKO when he least expected it.

Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura teamed up to defeat Rusev and Aiden English.

Rusev and English appeared to be in control when The Viper hit the Bulgarian Brute with an RKO outta nowhere. Nakamura then connected with a devastating Kinshasa on English to seal the win.
