Bobby Roode was crowned the new United States champion after beating Jinder Mahal in the tournament final on SmackDown.
Roode defeated Mojo Rawley in a semi-final earlier in the episode, while Mahal booked his place with a win over Xavier Woods.
That led to the Glorious One challenging Mahal to stage the tournament final match there and then, and although he declined, SmackDown general manager came out and booked the match.
Roode was plagued throughout by injured ribs, which the Modern-Day Maharaja attempted to capitalise on whenever possible, but emerged victorious when he countered a Khallas attempt into his Glorious DDT.
It was enough for the three-count and his first main roster title, having been NXT champion during his time there.
Riott Squad pick up crucial victory
With the women's Royal Rumble now less than a fortnight away, it appears the challenge for many members of the female roster is to build momentum for that, and the Riott Squad gained some form with a win in a triple tag match against a high-calibre opposition.
Becky Lynch and Naomi have both previously been champions while Charlotte is the current title holder but they came up short in their latest showdown with Ruby's crew.
Riott hit Naomi with an illegal kick from the apron and Liv Morgan smashed the former champ with her finisher for the victory.
