Rhyno returned to WWE for the first time in a decade on Wednesday night’s episode of NXT to defeat Elias Samson and stare down Finn Balor.

The former United States and ECW champion emerged to a raucous reception at Full Sail University in Orlando before flooring Samson with his Gore manoeuvre, a variation of the spear.

Rhyno, a close friend Edge and Christian, then locked eyes with the new No 1 contender to the NXT Title, Balor, suggesting a clash between the two may be in the offing.

Balor was also challenged by reigning NXT Champion Kevin Owens to set a date for their title dust-up following the former’s victory over Adrian Neville at last week’s TakeOver: Rival event.

Owens then mirrored Balor’s efforts by knocking off Neville himself, securing victory in an entertaining match-up by pummelling the Newcastle fighter with a pop-up powerbomb.

Elsewhere, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady boosted their hopes of earning a shot at the NXT Tag Team Titles by besting The Vaudevillains aka Aiden English and Simon Gotch.

However, current titlists Blake and Murphy then attempted to get inside Amore and Cassady’s heads by trying to enlist the services of the New Yorkers’ valet, Carmella.

Sasha Banks, meanwhile, backed up winning the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver: Rival by submitting Blue Pants with Banks Statement in a non-title encounter.

Plus, CJ Parker’s anger at being left off the Rival card led to him being attacked by NXT newcomer Solomon Crowe, with the computer hacker battering the eco-warrior after running through the crowd.
