Aussie quick bowler Shaun Tait has retired from all forms of cricket due to persistent elbow problems.
The 34-year-old was renowned for the pace of his bowling but has struggled with injuries and retired from first-class cricket in 2009 and one-day internationals in 2011.
However, he has continued to play since then as a Twenty20 specialist and his final match was for the Hobart Hurricanes against Sydney Thunder in the 2016/17 Big Bash.
"I honestly wanted to play a couple more years, whether it was over in the UK or here," he told cricket.co.au.
"The elbow has pretty much gone off a cliff now, it's done and dusted.
"I suppose when you're not contributing on the field as much as you'd like to, it's time to finish up.
"The game's getting quicker and better and I'm getting slower and a bit older. It's that simple."
Tait represented Australia in three Tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20s, and made his last international appearance against India at Sydney last year.
He played a key role in the World Cup win of 2007, finishing as the joint-second highest wicket-taker at the tournament with 23 dismissals.
His career ODI strike rate of 27.2 balls per wicket is the second-best of any Aussie with 50 or more dismissals.
Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said: "In his prime, Shaun was the world's fastest bowler.
"It was incredibly exciting to watch him in full flight, bursting through the defences of the game's best batsmen.
"We take this moment to applaud him for his achievements and contribution on the field and wish him well for the future."
Tait hopes to remain in the game in some capacity, and said: "I don't want to close cricket off, that's for sure.
"It'd be nice to continue on in cricket somehow."
