Shashank Manohar set to replace N Srinivasan as ICC chairman

Shashank Manohar is being lined up to become the new International Cricket Council chairman and replace N Srinivasan.

Manohar's anticipated elevation to the role at the top of world cricket administration follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India's reported decision at its annual general meeting to remove Srinivasan as its ICC representative.

The 58-year-old Manohar therefore seems sure to take Srinivasan's position as ICC chairman, and remain in the role until the end of the initially scheduled tenure in June 2016.

The ICC, which has yet to confirm the switch, said in a statement it was still awaiting official notification from the BCCI regarding its decision to change its nominee to the ICC board.

The BCCI confirmed its position on Twitter on Monday morning by stating: "Mr.Shashank Manohar will be the BCCI representative at the ICC ..."

Former ICC President Sharad Pawar will be an additional director who will attend meetings if Manohar is not available.

The move is seen as a part of the BCCI's efforts to improve its image after a corruption scandal during the 2013 Indian Premier League in which Srinivasan's son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was found guilty of spot fixing-related charges by a Supreme Court-appointed committee.

Meiyappan, who was held for two weeks by Mumbai Police, had been initially cleared by the BCCI's own committee.

Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kunda were banned for life by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha committee for allegedly making contact with bookies and passing team information to them.

The committee also suspended the Chennai and Rajasthan franchises for two years each. The BCCI is in the process of finalising two teams to replace the suspended ones in the interim.

"I'd promised to bring in such a system when I took over as BCCI president," Manohar said. "We will clean up the system and run the board in a most transparent fashion."
