Premier League clubs' most used nations revealed

Bournemouth have used more English players than any other Premier League club this season, while their Tuesday night opponents Arsenal have preferred Spanish and French players.

In a Sky Sports study of nationalities used by Premier League clubs in 2016/17, Bournemouth have used 14 English players in total, with Englishmen accounting for 12,360 of the minutes played by Cherries players this season (65.79 per cent).

Defensive quartet Steve Cook (1,710 minutes), Simon Francis (1,710), Adam Smith (1,547) and Charlie Daniels (1,530) are among the most used players by Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.

Bournemouth host Arsenal on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports 1 from 7.30pm, and 19.94 per cent of minutes played by the Gunners have been played by Spanish players. French players have then racked up the second largest proportion of minutes (16.79 per cent), while English players have accounted for just 14.64 per cent of game time.

Arsenal's Spanish contingent includes Nacho Monreal (who has played 1,533 minutes), Hector Bellerin (1,415), Santi Cazorla (619) and Lucas Perez (180).

The Gunners have used eight English players for a total of 2,751 minutes, primarily from Theo Walcott (1,347) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (718).

Besides Arsenal, only three other Premier League clubs have played foreign players more than English: Chelsea (Spain, Belgium and Brazil), Manchester City (Argentina and Spain) and Watford (France).

In fact, league leaders Chelsea are the only club not to have English players among their top three nationalities used.

Antonio Conte's men face Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports 1, with Spurs fielding England players most, followed by Belgium and France.

English players have accounted for 37.72 per cent of minutes played by Spurs players this season (7,096 minutes), the highest proportion among the leading six clubs, with Liverpool a close second on 34.70 per cent (6,528 minutes).
