A brace from Kieran Sadlier and a Niall Ennis strike secured a comfortable win for Doncaster as Southend failed to build on their first league win under boss Sol Campbell, despite pulling a goal back through Harry Phillips.
Doncaster beat Southend 7-1 in the reverse fixture and showed similar ruthlessness to sweep the strugglers aside for a second time.
After a sloppy start, the hosts took the lead after 24 minutes when Ennis received the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the box, turned and rifled a low effort beyond Mark Oxley.
The goal settled Doncaster and they doubled their advantage after 41 minutes when Sadlier curled home from 15 yards after a rapid counter-attack.
The game looked to have been put to bed when Sadlier headed home from a Jon Taylor cross 10 minutes into the second half.
Phillips smashed in a deflected effort from 30 yards to get Southend on the scoresheet but Doncaster were in full control.
