Real Madrid 0-0 Atletico Madrid: Real miss chance to go top

Real Madrid missed the chance to go top of La Liga after a goalless draw with Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu on Saturday night.

Following Barcelona's 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao, a draw would have put Julen Lopetegui's side top of the league, but both goalkeepers were on top as Thibaut Courtois and Jan Oblak made fine stops.

The result means Real are second, level on points with leaders Barcelona but behind on goal difference, while Atletico Madrid stay fourth with 12 points from seven games.

Real had most of the ball in the first half, with Gareth Bale going closest as his cross-shot fell inches wide of the far post from Toni Kroos' free-kick.

Bale was taken off at half time with a minor muscle injury, and his replacement Dani Ceballos created a fine chance for Marco Asensio on the right of the box, but his shot was brilliantly kept out by Oblak.
