Tiger Woods has confirmed the first event of his summer schedule on the PGA Tour by committing to play The National in Washington.

Woods is a two-time winner of the event and will make his first appearance since 2015 at the tournament, which benefits his foundation, when it is held at TPC Potomac from June 28-July 1.

"I am really looking forward to being back in the D.C. area this summer playing in The National," Woods said.

"As a two-time champion of this event benefiting my foundation, The National has always been a special event for me."

The 42-year-old has impressed since his latest return from back surgery, posting a 12th place finish at the Honda Classic before successive top-fives at the Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The National is currently without a sponsor for 2018, having been called the Quicken Loans National the previous four years and the AT&T National between 2007 and 2013.

Kyle Stanley defeated Charles Howell III in a play-off to win the 2017 contest, with Justin Rose and Bill Haas among the tournament's previous champions.
