Odell Beckham Jr could face disciplinary action from the New York Giants for his touchdown celebration on Sunday that mimicked a dog urinating.

During the game Beckham Jr was hit with a 15-yard penalty in the 27-24 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles for his antics after scoring the first of his two touchdowns in the game.

The NFL, dubbed the 'No Fun League' because of issuing penalties for endzone celebrations among other reasons, relaxed rules this season but still outlaws celebrations related to bodily functions.

After the game, Beckham Jr said: "I was in the endzone. I scored a touchdown. I'm a dog so I acted like a dog.

"I don't know if the rulebook said you can't hike your leg. (The referee) said I peed on somebody, so I was trying to find the imaginary ghost that I peed on. But I didn't see him."

The wide receiver has since said on Twitter that his celebration was in response to Donald Trump's controversial comments that players should be fired for not standing when the national anthem is played.

But Giants co-owner John Mara is less than pleased by Beckham Jr's behaviour and hinted at additional discipline on top of any possible fine which could be forthcoming from the league.

In an email to the New York Post, Mara wrote: "I do not want to get into a discussion about this but I will say that I am very unhappy with Odell's behaviour on Sunday and we intend to deal with it internally."

Giants coach Ben McAdoo would not address the situation when asked on Monday but said it would always displease him to see his team penalised 15 yards.
