Chile have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup after assuming an unassailable 3-1 lead over Israel. Fernando Gonzalez saw off Dudi Sela in straight sets to clinch victory for the hosts. Gonzalez needed just a shade over two hours to complete a 6-4 6-4 6-3 triumph. Chile had won the first two matches of tie, which was delayed by a day because of the massive earthquake in the country last month, courtesy of victories by Nicolas Massu and Gonzalez. Israel hit back on Sunday, giving themselves renewed hope after winning the doubles encounter, but an unlikely comeback proved beyond them. Chile will now host Czech Republic, last year's runner-up, in the final eight of the tournament.
