Farah will be racing at the Anniversary Games at London's Olympic Stadium where last year he won gold in the 5000m and 10,000m.
But with the World Championships in Moscow just a couple of weeks away, the Team GB superstar does not want to overextend himself when he competes in the 3000m Diamond League race.
When asked if he would request the race to be paced for a crack at the British or European 3000m record, Farah said. "I'm just going to leave you guys guessing.
"My aim is to win the race but I haven't thought too much about it but I will have a chat with Alberto (Salazar - his coach).
"The most important thing for me though is not to overcook it. Moscow is what I'm getting ready for and this is just another race to get me tuned in.
"I have got great memories of the stadium. It will be amazing just walking in there and getting the reception, there will be a lot of memories coming back at that point.
"It would be good to win the race, tick that box and then go away to St Moritz for high-altitude training and I will stay there until Moscow."
Farah arrives in London in fantastic shape, having broken the European 1500m record in Monaco last week.
"The record shows that I'm in great form, I have just got to hold it together," he said.
"It is great to have that confidence when it comes to Moscow. It is going to be a different race - it is exciting because they will be testing me out."
