Amir Khan's trainer Virgil Hunter says they can do a better job than Floyd Mayweather in beating Saul Alvarez.

The man behind Khan admits he will be paying close attention to the September 2013 showdown that saw the former pound-for-pound No 1 hand 'Canelo' his solitary career defeat.

Mayweather won a majority decision despite being 13 years older than the Mexican and although he was impressed with the performance, Hunter believes Khan has the physical advantages to improve on Money's masterplan.

That's the fight you want to look at and see where you can capitalise on, but also add a few edges to it that maybe Floyd didn't do that night.

"Amir is bigger than Floyd, longer and at this time, I know when he's in good shape, his tank is much fuller because of his age," he told Sky Sports News HQ.

"But definitely that's the fight you want to look at and see where you can capitalise on, but also add a few edges to it that maybe Floyd didn't do that night because he had control of that fight from very early.

"Amir also possesses enough pop to keep him honest."

Hunter is not known for his bold statements or trash-talking but made it clear that Khan could add another surprise and beat the favourite Alvarez.

But the man behind the unbeaten American Andre Ward warned his British fighter that he needs to be at his very best to follow in Mayweather's footsteps.

"He is focused," he said.

"When I tell him what can get him in danger or create a problem, I think he has a very great chance of winning the fight."
