Juergen Braehmer will defend his WBA world light-heavyweight title against Eduard Gutknecht on March 12.
The 37-year-old Braehmer (47-2-KO35) had been due to face Thomas Oosthuizen but the South African withdrew and stepping in is Gutknecht (29-3-1-KO12), who he beat via unanimous decision for the European title in February 2013.
Braehmer, who will be making his sixth defence, said: "We had the option to take an immediate rematch with Gutknecht after our first fight or to face Marcus Oliveria for the [WBA regular] title.
"Obviously, the world title challenge took absolute priority, but now I'm champion, I'm willing to give Gutknecht a shot. He is a strong opponent, and I'm sure together, we will deliver the fans a fight worthy of its championship status."
Promoter Kalle Sauerland added: "Fans love a domestic dust-up and and there is already a lot of history between these two men, which will add to the drama.
"We're expecting a sell-out crowd at the Jahnsportforum [in Neubrandenburg], and I'm sure no one will leave disappointed."
Germany's Braehmer has long been touted as a possible future opponent for former world champion Nathan Cleverly.
