Scott Quigg claims Carl Frampton gave up the WBA world super-bantamweight title to avoid facing Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Frampton took Quigg's WBA crown via split decision in February but the Northern Irishman, who was already IBF champion, has since been stripped by the WBA for failing to agree to a first defence against Rigondeaux (16-0-KO10).

In an interview reported on The Boxing Voice, Quigg said: "He's been stripped of the WBA title. I'd definitely be looking to see who the WBA will put me in with.

"Whether it's Rigondeaux, who Frampton was supposed to fight but he chose to relinquish because they're not confident of winning that fight, I'd be 100 per cent confident going in to get that title back against Rigondeaux."

During defeat to Frampton, Quigg suffered a broken jaw but, although he is still unable to resume full training, reiterated his desire for a rematch.

"At the minute I've still got two plates in my jaw from the fight, so I'm playing a waiting game," he added.

Joe Gallagher says Scott Quigg is already targeting a rematch with Carl Frampton

"I'm still in the gym but I can't spar and this has got to heal before I can get back in the ring. But I'm looking to get back in the ring late September, early October all going well.

"First of all I want a rematch with Frampton but other than Frampton it would be Leo Santa Cruz, because I think mine and his style of fighting would gel for a great action-packed fight and that's one that I've always fancied winning."
